You’ll stay in the heart of North Norfolk

Stay in the village…

Great Ryburgh sits two miles south-east of the market town of Fakenham (home to Fakenham Races). The river Wensum flows through the village, which made it a perfect spot over 2 centuries ago, to malt barley for whiskey. The village shop, post office and friendly, bustling community make the village a wonderful place to live.

In your hamper (if you are staying a week or more at Little Birch) you will find a voucher to spend in the shop - helping to support this community-owned venture,

A playing field with wooden playground, football field and small woodland are a few minutes’ walk from Little Birch Cottage.

The church is located next to the Blue Boar Inn (closed to non-residents currently) and is one of the 124 surviving round-tower churches in Norfolk. The tower dates back to the 12th Century. The church is open every day,

If you’re bringing a dog, you’ll find plenty of local walks and lots of friendly locals walking our own dogs – or riding their horses. There’s a tree-lined disused railway line, open meadows along Mill Road and a circular walk heading back down Westwood Lane through rolling farm fields. All accessible directly from the cottage..

… or venture far and wide.

We moved to North Norfolk because we love the ‘big sky’ beaches. A short drive up to the North Norfolk coast and you’ll find miles of sandy beaches and some breathtaking views.

In 22 minutes you can be parked up by the beach huts in Wells-Next-The-Sea, where you can walk all the way along the beach to Holkham – and then back through a stunning woodland (or do it in reverse so you can pay a visit to the Hall and its stunning grounds). Dog lovers, horse riders, kite flyers and anyone wanting some peace and quiet have ample space to enjoy this wonderful landscape.

Further round the coastline is Brancaster, Holme-next-the-sea, and onto Old Hunstanton, or go the other way to Weybourne, Runton, Cromer and Sherringham.

We have endless recommendations for everything from exceptional artisan bakeries to farm shops and deli’s, pubs aplenty, local breweries and vineyards, nature reserves, country estates… you won’t struggle for things to do here.

A day well spent – getting out and about then curling up front of the log burner with a good book and a glass of red – is definitely Norfolk ‘slow you down’ behaviour.
